ABOUT
CANAL BOAT CONTEMPORARY
OUR STORY
Peggy Guggenheim called us: "the deadliest gallery in London".
John Ruskin agreed, saying it was the: "daddio and the mummyio combined".
Pliny the Elder opined: "CBC is vibes".
Why?
It's on a boat, for starters.
And we've shown a smorgasbord of the best contemporary artists in the UK today - and Pliny could appreciate that kind of thing.
Once we've loaded up with art, we navigate the waterways and rivers of the capital, taking our weird, soulful, interesting, imaginative, funny, poetic, visionary new painting and sculpture to different locations along the canal.
After all, that's what we've got over the White Cubes and Pilar Corriases of this world.
We set sail.
Founded in 2023 when artist Pushka and wild outdoor chef Ruaridh Emslie put on the Canal Boat Art Fair - inviting 6 artists who live on the water, to moor together for a collective exhibition - the gallery has gone on to host three shows, featuring, among others:
KAROLINA ALBRICHT / MICHAEL CHANCE / NOEMI CONAN / BYZANTIA HARLOW / LUCILE HAEFFLINGER / TABBI LI / ALICE MACDONALD / R&F MO / JO MASON / TAHMINA NEGMAT / GAVIN LOCKHEARD / TOBY RAINBIRD / ZACH TOPPIN / ALEXANDER JAMES POLLARD / ANDREA MEDJESI / DAN HOWARD-BIRT / GRANT FOSTER / LAURIE COLE / LEE JOHNSON / LUKE BURTON / NICKY HIRST / PUSHKA / SCOTT McCRACKEN / SUKEY SLEEPER / TOM FARTHING / VIRGINIA VERRAN / DIDO HALLETT / LUCY HUTCHINGS / LENA POMPFORD / NEAL TAIT //
And though it's early days, Canal Boat Contemporary already has a loyal following among those who know.
Now we've launched The Miniatures Challenge, which saw nearly 600 entries.
Judged by critic Zarina Muhammad of The White Pube, and acclaimed artists Gareth Cadwallader and Anne Ryan, we can't wait to welcome you to the boat this Wednesday at Kings Cross to see the show.
Get there early or Pliny will have drunk all the beer.
