ABOUT CANAL BOAT CONTEMPORARY

Canal Boat Contemporary is a reclaimed post office noticeboard, now a towpath-facing vitrine, that hosts a new artist each week.

The project founded and run by artist Pushka, whose studio is inside the boat, started in 2024 as the Canal Boat Art Fair - a group show with other canal boat-dwelling artists. It's evolved into a rolling platform for emotionally charged, ambitious, and painterly work.

We show artists at all stages of their careers, with a focus on figurative and expressive painting. Each show is freely visible 24/7 to anyone walking by. This openness, combined with the boat’s mobility, creates a unique blend of gallery, street intervention, and travelling cabinet of curiosities.

So far we’ve hosted over 30 exhibitions - including installations, performances, and our Miniature Masters. We’ve sold work directly from the towpath, seen artists picked up for solo shows in regular bricks and mortar galleries, and built a growing community around the boat.

It’s all fuelled by curiosity, improvisation, and the joy of doing things differently.

To get involved, follow us on Instagram @canalboatcontemporary, or visit the boat - a map of the current location is always pinned to our instagram grid.
