Henry Ward is a painter, writer and educator, living and working in London. He works intuitively, finding compositions through the practice of painting and his dialogue with the material. The paintings are ostensibly abstract, but they are also "things", albeit unnameable ones. Ward is interested in the language of cartoons, comic strips, and children's book illustrations, referencing 20th century Modernism and with an approach that borrows from the language of collage. 
 
These works, all on paper, were included in his 2025 solo exhibition, "Album", at Canal Boat Contemporary, where he explored the potential narratives of hanging a number of different sized paintings on paper together as a comic strip or collection of family photographs.
