Crossing paths

Oil on cardboard and felt
2025
Shrunk to miniature, this abstract painting led to my approaching painting in a different way, using material and cardboard.
I incorporated collage, building up the layers with texture instead of my usual practice of using washes of paint. The result is a more dense piece of work and it has also affected my use of colour, responding more to the tones of the material than imposing onto it.
Amanda Houchen is an abstract artist, whose work often has an illusionistic quality; she plays with perception of space and depth with an intense, vibrant use of colour.
Amanda has completed the Turps course and has a Masters in Fine Art from City & Guilds.
