Based on a much larger painting of the same name, this work explores conflicting feelings of protection and guilt. This time, the figure is physically inside the seashell, which I found somewhere on the coast of Ireland.
As a very gestural, almost performative painter, this scale required an unusual stillness.
Meg Wylie is an Irish multi-disciplinary artist based in London. Her practice is primarily concerned with identity and belonging. She is interested in the female experience and the intersection of the unconscious and hidden desires, often within the context of Irish mythology and contemporary Irish identity.
