Bird House in the Dementia Garden

The worse my father's dementia gets, the more he retreats into an ever-decreasing world. He’s unaware of his surroundings. “Is this my house?” he asks daily. The fragile little bird house on his garden fence crept into my work as a metaphor for his need to be protected.
I’m a painter who makes work in response to external stimuli, whether that be visual, written or aural. Figurative and abstract works hold equal sway, and motifs are regularly returned to as they often have a personal or emotional connection.
