Oil pastel, oil and acrylic on abaya fabric
2025

The abaya is often misrepresented in the ‘West' as a symbol of oppression. For me, it evokes memories of my grandmother, aunties, and cousins, and the billowing movement and flow of the fabric. This small fragment feels like a precious artefact, a hand-held remnant filled with warmth and nostalgia.
