There is a curious interplay of distance and intimacy when painting on a small scale that I have really enjoyed! Here, while the moonlit trees evoke the wild unknown of the night-time environment, this is not time to be outside. Instead we humans are inside and safe, with the spoils of our adventures bottled in homely jars of jam. 
 
Frances Watts is a painter whose work is a romantic exploration of how we experience landscape through memory. Her paintings try to honour the passage the time, sanctity of place and our implicit relationship with the natural world.
