This miniature portrays a broken heart mended in the Japanese tradition of kintsugi. It celebrates resilience. By adding a “charred” effect to the frame, I hoped to emphasise a contrast with the heart’s transformation where new beauty can emerge from even the deepest wounds.
 
Gigi Francis is a London-based visual artist exploring identity and duality, often using recycled materials. Her practice navigates intersections of belonging as an immigrant, womanhood after motherhood, neurodivergence and mental health, expressing the creative tension and harmony in these layered aspects of her life.
