Remembering Chunee after Blake

This painting is inspired by Blake’s ‘The Ghost of a Flea’ and the story of Chunee the Elephant. In this re-remembering of Chunee, he has a wand so has the autonomy to change his outcome. He is standing on the cup, and it is upturned.
 
Boudicca Paloma was born in South London and recently completed the Turps Studio Programme. Looking both into the past and to the future she is inspired by the renaissance, mythology, Indian miniature paintings, sci-fi and popular culture.
Growing up near Peckham Rye and hearing tales of William Blake seeing angels in the trees led to a deep interest in mysticism and the natural world.
