This is a tiny chamber piece made in tribute to a titanic work of art. Despite the monumental scale of Velasquez’ painting, there is an intimacy and a delicacy I  wanted to suggest through the sometimes unpredictable medium of monoprint. I enjoyed a further play with scale when the minute painted plate went through a giant etching press in the studio.
 
Helen’s work is informed by her theatre background. She specialises in experimental printmaking, notably etching, monoprint and woodcut. Exhibitions include Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (2021-24) The Master’s Etching curated by Norman Ackroyd, and this year’s RA Summer Exhibition.
