The work features an imagined portrait of a Galway landlord. Shrinking the work down to this size forced a reliance on the brushstrokes to imply, rather than illuminate detail.
 
Joan Sugrue is an Irish based painter and her painting practice reflects her continued interest in colonialism and power politics. She has exhibited in Ireland and the UK including the Marmite Prize and the Contemporary British Prize for Painting and has work in the national Arts Council Collection of Ireland
