I cut this painting from an old garden fence, right by the seaside along the east coast of Scotland. The detail in miniaturisation, for me, enabled a kind of proximity. Innately intimate, the image saturated into the fabric of the material itself by staining and sinking itself into the surface.

Samantha Jackson [b.1999] is a painter from Dundee, Scotland. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2023 and the Royal College of Art in 2024. She currently lives and works in London with Conditions Studio Programme. She has exhibited in group shows across the UK.
